Sharing Files between InterConneX and a Mac via ChronoSync How to use ChronoSync to access and share files between a Mac and InterConneX

Sharing Files between InterConneX and a Mac via ChronoSync

There are two methods of sharing files between a Mac and InterConneX. You can use ChronoAgent or you can use ChronoSync.

The ChronoAgent method allows you to create an InterConneX sharespace to access files on a Mac. The files remain on the Mac and any file changes will occur directly to the files on the Mac. Use this method if do not want to store files directly on your iPhone or iPad and have a connection to your Mac to access the files.

The ChronoSync method syncs the files from the Mac to an InterConneX sharespace. The files are copied directly to the InterConneX sharespace on the iPad or iPhone. Any file changes can be synched back to the Mac. Use this method if you want to store the files on an iPhone or iPad so they are accessible at all times.

This guide explains how to share files between InterConneX and a Mac using the ChronoSync method. Click here to view the Connecting to a Mac via ChronoAgent guide.

SHARING FILES VIA CHRONOSYNC

Once you set up a ChronoSync task you can synchronize any files on your Mac to an InterConneX sharespace. Work on files directly on either device and synchronize those files so your files are up to date on both devices.

There are three steps to setting a up a ChronoSync to connect to InterConneX. First set up a published Sharespace, second set up an InterConneX connection profile in ChronoSync, and third set up a ChronoSync task that synchronizes files between your Mac and iPad or iPhone.

Set Up a Published Sharespace

Create a Local Sharespace within InterConneX.

Select the size of the sharespace.

Name the sharespace. (This is the name you will see within InterConneX.)

Activate “Accessible to Others” to publish it, so that you can access the sharespace from ChronoSync.

Specify a Network Name. (This is the name you will see when connecting to this sharespace.)

Activate “Require Login” to be safe so that only you can access it.

Save the Sharespace.

Set Up a Connection Profile in ChronoSync

Go to Connections Panel in ChronoSync Preferences and click on the + button or go to the Setup Panel of a ChronoSync task and select “Create connection” to begin setup.

  • After clicking on the add button to setup a new profile, choose “InterConneX” from the “Connection Type” menu.
  • Provide a “Unique Profile Name” in the text field provided.
  • Select a sharespace from the list that you wish to connect to. InterConneX must be open on the iPad or iPhone.
  • Provide the necessary login credentials. You can choose to login as a “Guest” or as an authenticated user. If not logging is as “Guest”, provide a username and password to gain access to the sharespace.
  • Test the connection by clicking on the “Test…” button.
  • Once everything is set up correctly and you are happy with the settings, you can choose “Next” to go to the “Advanced” settings.

The Advanced panel contains connection and timeout options. Most users will use the default settings, however more information is available if needed on the Advanced panel under “ChronoSync Help.” Once you’ve set up the Advanced panel options to your liking, click on “Save” to save your profile.

Set Up a ChronoSync Task

From the Setup Panel select the two targets you want to keep in sync. One target is a folder on your Mac and the other target is the sharespace on your iPad or iPhone.

To connect to InterConnex select the InterConneX profile you created from “Connect to” pop-up. Make sure InterConneX is open on the iPad or iPhone. For information on setting up a ChronoSync task view the ChronoSync Quick Start Guide.

sharing files

Once you set up a ChronoSync task you can easily synchronize files between your Mac and InterConneX. You will be able to access these files directly on your iPad or iPhone. Any changes you make can be synchronized back to your Mac.

The ability to easily transfer files to an iPad or iPhone from a Mac, work on those files, and then synchronize those files back to a Mac is a very valuable feature. For users on the go to have your files available locally on an iPad or iPhone means you can work without an internet connection.
