Configure and Backup to a Remote ChronoAgent Set up a ChronoAgent connection profile so that you can sync and backup to a remote Mac

Configure and Backup to a Remote ChronoAgent

If you want full access to a remote computer, you must have ChronoAgent installed on that remote computer for ChronoSync to access it. Once you have configured ChronoAgent, a connection profile can then be made in ChronoSync and selected as a target to be synchronized to. To set up a ChronoAgent connection profile and then backup to a remote ChronoAgent installed on a Mac, follow these steps:

SET UP CONNECTION PROFILE

  • Open Preferences in ChronoSync.
  • Go to Connections Preferences.
  • Click on the plus sign to add a new connection profile.
  • Provide a name.
  • Choose “ChronoAgent” for Connection Type.
  • Choose which agent to connect to. You can also choose to enter an internet address. In ChronoAgent, on the destination Mac, the internet address can be found under the “Status” panel. You would use an internet address if ChronoAgent is not available on the local network or is on another subnet of a local network.
  • Provide the Username and Password you chose when you set up ChronoAgent.
  • “Test” the connection.
  • If valid, click on “Next” to set up the Advanced connection profile features.
  • Set whichever Advanced options you’d like. For a thorough explanation of them, click on the Help button to visit the ChronoSync help.
  • When finished, click on “Next” to set up the connection profile Mappings.
  • Set your user Mappings. For a thorough explanation of Mappings, click on the Help button to visit the ChronoSync help.
  • When finished, click on “Save” to save the profile.
  • Now you’re ready to connect and backup to it.

BACKUP TO A REMOTE CHRONOAGENT

To connect to a ChronoAgent Mac, you set up your targets just like you would with any sync task. Follow these steps to set up a synchronization of your Documents folder, one located on your laptop and the other on your desktop:

  • Select your Source target by clicking on “Choose…” in the Setup panel’s Source pane.
  • On the Destination pane, choose the ChronoAgent connection you just created from the “Connect to:” menu.
  • Click “Choose…” to select the target on your ChronoAgent Mac.
  • Click on “Select” to close the sheet.

At this point, your backup is ready to run. If you wish to set rules or options, visit the respective panel.
