Migrate Express Task Documents to ChronoSync how to move ChronoSync Express tasks to ChronoSync

TNCSX-0011 – Migrate Express Task Documents to ChronoSync

Created: May 29, 2018

This tech note assumes both ChronoSync and ChronoSync Express are already installed and running.

In the ChronoSync Express Organizer window, right-click (or OPTION-click) the a task document and choose “Reveal in Finder.”

In the Finder window that appears, select the task documents you would like to migrate and choose “Copy” from the “Edit” menu (or just type COMMAND-C).

Now type COMMAND-SHIFT-G and the “Go to folder:” sheet should appear:

Type “~/Library/Application Support/ChronoSync/Tasks” and click “Go.”

Then choose “Paste” from the “Edit” menu (or just type COMMAND-V).

Make sure the files you just pasted are selected…

…and drag them to ChronoSync (in the dock). Alternatively, you can right-click (OPTION-click) the selected files and choose “Open with -> ChronoSync.” It’s important that you specifically open them with ChronoSync. If you simply double-click them, your computer may end up opening them using ChronoSync Express.

The documents should then open in ChronoSync, at which time you may simply close them. They should appear in the ChronoSync Organizer window from now on. If you have many task documents, you may want to open them one-by-one or in small batches so that you don’t overwhelm ChronoSync by opening dozens of tasks documents at once.

CAVEATS

While you may easily migrate a ChronoSync Express task document to ChronoSync, the reverse is not true. ChronoSync does not encode sandbox security information in the task documents and thus ChronoSync Express will not have access to your targets. You will have to re-specify the targets in ChronoSync Express if you do this.

DELETING CHRONOSYNC EXPRESS

Delete the “ChronoSync Express.app” file located in /Applications. You should then log out of your user account and then back in (or reboot the system).

Then delete the ~/Library/Containers/com.econtechnologies.chronosync.express and ~/Library/Group Containers/9U697UM7YX.ChronoSyncExpress folders. Use the COMMAND-SHIFT-G trick in Finder to reach your “~/Library” folder if it is not visible.
