Using the Print To Email Feature

Share those creatively made templates with family and friends this holiday season. Want to share your child's first holiday photo with those you love? Maybe you want to share your family holiday photo? How about Rover looking cute in a Santa hat? Sharing photos is easy to do with Portraits & Prints. With the Print To Email feature, sending your creations is simple! Just choose the template, select the Print To Email feature, provide recipient names for the email, and send! Now everyone can share your wonderful holiday memories.

Step 1. With a catalog document open and photos added, select a holiday template from the Template Manager. If needed, download a new template from the Exchange.

It is important to use a template containing defined print areas. Print areas are objects that allow you to define the specific size and position of a printing area on a page. This is advantageous if you wish to print only a portion of the template.

All of the templates obtained from the Template Exchange have print areas. If you are using a template without print areas, edit the template and add a print area (this requires the Pro edition).

Step 2. Most holiday templates have two identical photo cells/graphics contained within them. So that the same photo won't be sent more than once, take advantage of the layout options. To have complete control over the photo placement, choose Options from the Toolbar and select "Manual photo placement". In this mode, you will be able to choose which photo goes into which photo cell. Simply click and drag the desired photo onto the photo cell. For the purpose of this example, only one photo will be exported. This means that one photo cell will be empty. If you wish for another to be exported, fill in the other photo cell with another photo.

Step 3. After the photo is placed, it is now time to email it to your friends and family. Choose "Print->to Email..." from the File menu. A settings sheet will drop down allowing you to specify both quality and dimensions settings. Keep in mind that the bigger the dimensions, the more data that will have to be sent via email. Also, the better the image quality, the more data that will be sent. To give you an idea of the size of data to be sent, check out the "Est. data size" field. You'll notice that as you change the dimension and quality settings, the value in the field changes.

When you get the settings and size that you like, click on "Compose" to begin your email.

Step 4. An email will now open with the exported photo in it. By default, the email application used is Apple Mail. If you don't wish to use Apple Mail, it can be changed in the General Preferences settings. Go to the Portraits & Prints application menu and choose "Preferences..." When the Preferences window opens, choose the General icon and then choose your preferred email application from the "Send emails via" pop up menu. Currently, the following email applications are supported: Apple Mail, Entourage, Eudora, Mailsmith 1.5, PowerMail, and QuickMail.

Step 5. Add the addresses of those you wish to email, change the subject line if you wish, and include a nice message.

Step 6. Send the email!

Note. Portraits & Prints will only export the print areas that contain a photo. In this example, only one of the two photo cells are filled. Thus, only one picture will be attached to the email.
