Using the Red-Eye Reduction Tool

A common problem with flash photography is the red-eye it produces. Red-eye results from the reflection of the flash which causes the pupil to turn red in the photograph. With Portraits & Prints it is very easy to eliminate those demon eyes - just follow these six easy steps:

1. Select a photo
Click the "Photograph" tab in the main window, then select the photograph you wish to edit in the catalog drawer.

2. Click Red Eye button
Click the “Red Eye” icon button on the toolbar or choose “Reduce Red Eye" from the Actions->Photograph menu.

3. Aim
Move the mouse over the red eye. Use the magnified view window, located at the bottom left corner of the catalog window, to center the target over the red eye.

4. Encircle the Red
Most important step: Use the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard to enlarge and reduce the target area. The target circle should only cover a red area.

Note: If the target circle is covering more than just the red area it will cause a black & blue effect. This is only good if you want to get rid of the red-eye and replace it with a black-eye. Try it out for those tough guy photos.

Center target on red pupil.
Use up/down arrow keys to zoom in
until pupil fills the target area.
5. Click
Once it is positioned perfectly, click the mouse and the red eye is gone.

6. Done
If you want to start over, use the undo command (COMMAND-Z). When you are finished using red eye reduction click on the “Red Eye” icon button on the toolbar again.

That's it!
