Version 1.3.4
March 5th, 2004

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a significant problem where repeatedly manipulating photos which did not have any EXIF information attached to them would eventually render the program unusable (usually requiring a force-quit).
  • Fixed a problem introduced in v1.3.3 where adding "Clear Cells" to the toolbar would render the "Layout" panel unusable. The problem would occur if running in "Manual Placement" mode.

Version 1.3.3
February 24th, 2004

Features/Enhancements:

  • Implemented automatic image cache management which ensures that viewing a lot of images in a document will not use an excessive amount of memory.
  • Rendering complex templates (both on screen and in print) now uses significantly less memory and is performed faster as a result.
  • Added support for up/down arrow key navigation in the catalog drawer.
  • Added support for nudging the crop area by using the up/down/left/light arrows keys while crop mode is active. Holding OPTION down while typing these keys increases the magnitude by 8.
  • Added the 3 - 4"x6" template to the standard set of templates included with the program.
  • Empty photo cells in template view now have the "Cell #n" label drawn at their center. This conveys the order in which photos will print.
  • Added the "No Selection" and "Multiple Selection" text messages to the Photo view panel if there's is no photo or multiple photos selected.
  • Changed the "Hide Others" menu keyboard equivalent and added "Photograph" and "Layout" to the "View" menu.
  • Reconstructed all standard templates to include an embedded thumbnail proxy.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a problem where encountering partial or otherwise corrupt ColorSync profile information in an image could cause a crash.
  • Fixed a problem where encountering partial or otherwise corrupt EXIF data in an image could cause a crash.
  • Eliminated a significant memory leak that occurred whenever switching templates. The impact was far greater for complex templates such as the recently released Valentines Day or Photo Mask sets.
  • Fixed a problem where encountering "zero-sized" objects in a template could cause incomplete rendering of the template page.
  • Fixed a bug under Panther where dragging a photo within an auto-cropped cell would adjust it's offset by an inverse vertical magnitude if the template had a "non-flipped" internal layout. Only the single 8x10 template had this trait.
  • Fixed some glitches regarding the calculation of cursor rectangles when entering crop or red-eye mode. Sometimes the cursor wouldn't change unless you dragged out & back into the cursor rectangles.
  • Fixed a cosmetic glitch that sometimes occurred when opening a blank catalog document under Panther.
  • Fixed a problem where the toolbar state could sometimes be inaccurate and would require moving the mouse (sometimes to within the toolbar area itself) in order for the items to re-validate.

Version 1.3.2
December 24th, 2003

Features:

  • More optimal build settings for better overall performance.
  • Added a contextual menu to the Red-Eye mode that allows the aperture size to be controlled via right-clicking (or CONTROL-clicking) the mouse.
  • The Red-Eye mode's most recent aperture size is now retained between program launches.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed problems where several combinations of the Sharpen filter along with Saturation, Contrast and/or Brightness could introduce some pixel artifacts along the extreme edges of an enhanced photograph.
  • Fixed a problem where rotating photo images could potentially introduce a one pixel wide artifact along the edges of the transformed photograph.
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing an alias file referencing an image file from being added to a photo catalog.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented data-fork only AppleScript files from being executed.
  • Rebuilt the included AppleScripts so they execute on pre-Panther (Mac OS X 10.2.x and earlier) systems.

Version 1.3.1
October 24th, 2003

Features:

  • Extensively tested to function properly under Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther").
  • Built with GCC 3.3 for performance increases across-the-board.
  • Multiple copies of the same image file can now be added to a catalog. Each copy has their own unique properties (rotation, enhancements, etc).
  • You can now cut/copy/paste selected images within a catalog or between applications.
  • Pasting images in a catalog now inserts before the currently selected image instead of appending onto the end of the catalog.
  • Images in a catalog can be duplicated by OPTION-dragging them.
  • The size and position of catalog windows are now saved with the document and restored when opened (this behavior is controlled under Preferences).
  • Added the "Slideshow", "Mark All" and "Unmark All" AppleScripts.
  • Implemented automatic update detections.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed several bugs related to auto-installing the scripts that are bundled with the application.
  • Fixed an irritating auto-scrolling behavior after deleting an image (or set of images) from a catalog.
  • Corrected a crashing bug that occurred when an image's embedded thumbnail had corrupt dimensions of 0 x 0.

Version 1.3
February 20th, 2003

Features:

  • Simplified Photo Printing. When used under Mac OS X 10.2, printer drivers that support this feature will display several presets optimized for photo printing. Just choose a preset and click "Print".
  • "Web Photos". In addition to local image files, URLs referencing photos and/or graphics on an internet web page can be added to a catalog. Thus any web based photo can be viewed, manipulated and printed without having to download it.
  • Faster Image Enhancements. The image enhancement filters for controlling image sharpness, saturation, brightness and contrast have been optimized to perform up to twice as fast. Combinations of filters yield even more dramatic improvements.
  • Displays EXIF Properties. The Photo Information Panel, in addition to basic attributes, now displays all EXIF data that may be associated with the selected photograph.
  • Better Handling of Missing Images. When a link to a photo in a catalog becomes broken (because the photo file was deleted or no longer available), the catalog entry is disabled, but it may still be manipulated. Furthermore, the new "Locate" function allows you fix such broken links.
  • Export Cropped Images. When exporting images, crop rectangles can be optionally applied to the exported image. Previously, only the entire image could be exported.
  • Rename Photo Files. The "Rename" function allows you to quickly rename photo files added to a catalog.
  • Supports Hidden Extensions. Photo files with hidden extensions no longer show the filename extension in the catalog drawer. Extensions can be hidden/shown when renaming files.
  • Contextual Menu in Catalog Drawer. Control- or Right- clicking entries in the catalog drawer displays a contextual menu with several handy commands.
  • Rotate 180°. Photos can now be flipped vertically in a single operation.
  • Improved Selection Behavior. Command- and Shift- clicking is now fully supported for disjoint and range selection.
  • Update Detection. Choosing "Check for Updates" in the "Help" menu will check to see if a newer version of Portraits & Prints has been released.
  • Better Template Management. All templates are now stored in the Portraits & Prints "Templates" folder. Previously, templates were co-located in the application's package as well as the "Templates" folder.
  • More Efficient On-screen Template Rendering. Complex graphic objects in templates are now cached at screen resolution, resulting in much faster screen rendering and user interaction.
  • Improved Template Selection. The template selector sheet now displays more templates and can be custom resized by the user. Basic template information such as category and description are now displayed for selected templates.
  • New, Improved Help Center. Changes and additions are documented in the online help system.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a problem where the undo stack would get corrupted while applying crop constraints.
  • Encountering a corrupt template file no longer causes the application to ignore all installed templates. A notice is presented to the user regarding the bad template, but all other templates are still available for use.
  • Memory use when enumerating large collections of templates has been significantly reduced.
  • Export and Save-Back operations now correctly skip disabled catalog entries which may be selected. Previously, this would generate an error (and maybe a crash).
  • Fixed some display artifacts when rendering certain templates on the "Layout" panel.
  • Catalog document windows are now reasonably usable on 800x600 displays.
  • Opening a catalog document with a window size larger than the current display size will have the window size automatically reduced to fit.
  • Eliminated a crash that would sometimes occur when launching Portraits & Prints by double-clicking on a catalog document.
  • Fixed a problem where applying a crop preset would not "stick" unless the crop rectangle was somehow manipulated (moved or resized).
  • Fixed a problem where applying a crop preset would not recalculate cursor rectangles (the wrong cursor would be displayed when passing over the image).
