Version 1.2.1
August 26th, 2002
Features:
- Extensively tested to function properly under Mac OS X 10.2 ("Jaguar").
- Built with GCC 3.1, Apple's latest, super optimizing Objective-C compiler.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a problem where dragging a large image file into an empty catalog could potentially cause the program to crash.
- Fixed a bug where a photo's dimensions listed in the "Info" panel would display as "0 x 0" if the photo hadn't been loaded yet. It still won't report dimensions until a photo is loaded, but at least now it tells you that.
- Fixed another bug related to displaying photo dimensions. In some circumstances, the dimensions wouldn't update even though the photo had been loaded.
- Fixed a problem where performing Undo while in Red-Eye mode would require you to drag the mouse outside of the photograph and back in for an image to reappear inside the Magnifier floating panel.
- Fixed a problem where the cursor would not be visible if Red-Eye mode were in effect and the photo had a crop area defined. Applying red-eye reduction to the cropped area would have very bizarre effects on the program.
- Fixed a Jaguar specific problem where the page setup was not being correctly defined when working with certain layout templates.
Version 1.2
July 30th, 2002
Features:
- Contrast adjustment - The photo enhancer tool can now increase or decrease the contrast of photographs.
- Document specific image enhancement defaults - Default settings for saturation, brightness, contrast and sharpness can be specified on a per document basis. This allows catalog documents to be created which act as specific filters. .
- Photo enhancement presets - Photo enhancement settings can be recorded as "presets" and quickly applied at any time by choosing the preset's name from a drop down menu. There are 11 predefined presets to assist in common photo enhancement tasks.
- File information panel - Displays basic information about the file which contains a selected photograph's image, such as its size, dimensions and location on the hard disk.
- Crop aspect ratio constraints - Conveniently constrain defined crop areas to common photograph aspect ratios, or the "natural" aspect ratio of the photograph you are cropping.
- Crop presets - Record specified crop areas as presets and quickly apply them by selecting a preset's name from a pop-up menu. Presets are useful for applying the same crop rectangle, repeatedly, to a large set of photographs.
- Crop control panel - Crop settings such as aspect ratio constraints and presets are now accessed via a new crop control floating panel. Interactive feedback showing the dimensions of the current crop rectangle are now displayed inside this floating panel.
- Print marker checkbox in status bar - The status bar now displays a print marker checkbox, providing a convenient method for toggling this setting without having to find a thumbnail in the drawer or visiting the application's menu bar.
- Enhanced AppleScript support - The AppleScript dictionary has been expanded. Scripts can now access almost every property associated with an individual photo entry in a catalog. Also, photos may now be exported under script control.
- New "Scripts" menu - Scripts specific to Portraits & Prints can now be installed and will appear automatically under the "Scripts" menu. Choosing a script's name from this menu will execute it. Six "starter" scripts are now included to give you an idea of how to script Portraits & Prints.
- Control over photo scaling - The previous "auto-crop" method of rendering photos in templates has been joined by two additional methods: "proportional" and "shrink/stretch to fit".
- Compact Help Center - The Help Center has been streamlined to provide more useful, run-time information rather than being a redundant copy of the manual.
- New PDF Manual - The PDF manual, available from the Downloads page of our web site, has been expanded to cover all new features. The manual is also no more printable.
Version 1.1
March 28th, 2002
- Enhanced drag-n-drop - Photos in a catalog can now be freely exchanged with other catalogs or other applications by simply dragging them.
- Enhanced Services support - Portraits & Prints was always a "Service Receiver". It can now provide photo data to other applications which are "Service Aware", such as Apple Mail.
- Rearrangement of catalog photos - Photos in catalogs can be rearranged by simply dragging them around. This affects the order in which they are printed when the auto-single or auto-multiple layout modes are in effect.
- Manual placement of photos onto templates - A new layout mode, "Manual photo placement", has been added. When this mode is active, simply drag a photo from the catalog drawer to the desired position on the chosen template. A photo can be placed as many times as you desire.
- User customizable toolbar - The icons and icon arrangement in the toolbar are entirely at your control. Choose "Customize toolbar" from the "View" menu and place just the icons you want, where you want them. Remove icons by simply dragging them off of the toolbar.
- Exporting photos - All photos selected in your catalog can be exported by invoking the "Export" command. Simply choose a destination folder and the photos will be exported using one of several common image file formats and compression options.
- Save-back - A shortcut for exporting, the save-back feature will save all your modifications back to the original photo files in one step.
- Enhanced ColorSync workflow support - You can now optionally include ColorSync in your entire workflow. Imported photo's ColorSync profiles (if present) are matched to your display or print device. Exported photos can contain ColorSync profiles matching your display device. Photos without ColorSync profiles will have new profiles created for them.
- Enhanced preference settings - You now have more control over the Portraits & Prints environment via additional preference settings. You can control the default window and drawer size, which layout mode you prefer, as well as the program's startup/activation behavior.
- Improved thumbnail display - Photos with embedded thumbnails now display significantly faster in the catalog drawer.
- Expanded menu structure - Virtually every task in Portraits & Prints now has a corresponding menu command, with key equivalents providing speedy shortcuts.
- A PDF manual - The PDF version of the online help can be obtained from the Downloads page of our web site.
Version 1.0.4
January 15th, 2002
- Fixed incorrect entries in the info.plist that prevented a wide variety of image file types (everything except JPEG and TIFF) from being added to catalogs via the File/Open command or by dropping them on the application icon. Drag & drop to a catalog window as well as the "Add..." command always worked correctly, but since iPhoto sends us an "open" message, this needed to be fixed.
- Fixed a cosmetic glitch that resulted in the slider controls of the Pixel Enhancer floating panel appearing "grayed out" when activating the application by clicking an open window.
Version 1.0.3
January 4th, 2002
- The Template Selector sheet window now sorts templates by their template name rather than their filename. It also now automatically scrolls to the currently active template.
- A "live preview" option has been added to the Pixel Enhancer so you no longer need to click "Apply" to see saturation, brightness or sharpness changes.
- The Pixel Enhancer floating panel now has a close button in it's title bar. The "Done" button is gone.
- Red-eye reduction mode can be exited by clicking the newly added close button in the Magnified View floating panel.
- A 4" x 6" layout template has been added to the built-in set.
- Added user feedback acknowledging success after a drag-n-drop template install.
- Updated Help Center.
- Undo/Redo operations involving adding/removal of photos to/from a catalog now retain all properties of those photos (rotation, crop, pixel enhancements, etc.).
- Fixed inability of the Layout Templates panel of the Preferences dialog to detect certain changes to installed templates, notably 'category' changes.
- User editable text objects in layout templates which share the same name and identifier are now only listed once in the Edit Text sheet.
- Cursor rectangles in the Layout and Photo panels of a catalog window are now correctly clipped if the window size is too small to display the entire template or photo.
- A new catalog document can now be created when the Preferences dialog is front-most.
- User editable text that had no identifier can now be modified.
- Fixed a leak that could potentially cause a crash after the Template Selector sheet window had been displayed in a catalog window.
- Fixed intermittent failure to refresh the displayed layout template after a photo had been removed from a catalog.
- Undoing all changes to a catalog no longer leaves the document in a modified (i.e. needs to be saved) state.
- The "49 Micros" template now has it's photo cell objects layered correctly.
- Modifications to "Layout Options" can now be undone.
- Rotation property of most recently rotated photo no longer gets applied to the thumbnail of the next photo added.
- Window now refreshes properly after the selection of a different layout template is undone.
- When adding a template that is a duplicate, if the user chooses to rename rather than replace, both the template name and filename get changed (as opposed to just the filename).
- If the template currently in effect in a catalog document gets replaced by one of the same name, the new template now automatically takes effect.
Version 1.0.2
