"Syncing" Calendar Documents

One of the most powerful capabilities of DayChaser is its ability to have multiple calendar documents being managed at the same time. Because of this powerful feature, it is ideal to have different calendars depicting different areas of your life. For example, to organize your professional and personal life, you may create a calendar for each. There may be a time, though, when you decide you want to merge the two calendars together to get a better idea of what you have going on in an entire day, week, month, or year! This tip will instruct you on the easiest way to consolidate the two, leaving you with one calendar showing your entire life's events.

To start off, you must have two calendars that you would like to have merged. For the sake of this example we'll use a "work" calendar and a "personal" calendar. It is best to combine the two calendars into a third calendar document rather than merging one into another. That way, you can continue to keep your two calendars separate.

One thing to note is that you may choose to merge entries on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. For example, if you have the Month view showing and choose to export, only those entries within that month will be exported. To get an entire year of calendar entries, switch over to Year view. This will export all entries for the year specified in the view. As a rule of thumb, think "what you see is what you get." Month view will produce only month entries. Day view will produce only entries for the selected day.

Entries from two calendar documents may
be merged into another document.

The "Export->Calendar Entries..." command
is available under the "File" menu.

Step 1. Open your "work" calendar. From the File menu, choose the "Export->Calendar Entries..." option. Here, you will be given the option to name your export file and choose the location.

Step 2. Do the same with the "personal" calendar. Open your "personal" calendar. From the File menu, choose the "Export->Calendar Entries..." option. Here, you will be given the option to name your export file and choose the location.

Note: When you have the file dialog open, you'll see that you may choose a particular File Format for the exported entries. In this example, either file format works. It's easiest to just use the default value.

Step 3. From the File menu, choose "New" to open a new, blank Calendar Document. It is best to combine the two calendars into a third calendar so that you may keep your two calendars separate.
Step 4. Select the new calendar document and then choose
"Import->Calendar Entries..." from the File menu. This will bring up a file selection dialog for you to choose the exported file. First import the "work" calendar entries from Step One. When this file is selected and "OPEN" chosen, the entries will be imported into the new calendar document. A verification dialog will show telling you how many entries were imported.

Step 5. Do the same with the "personal" calendar. Select the new calendar document and then choose "Import->Calendar Entries..." from the File menu. This will bring up a file selection dialog for you to choose the exported file. First import the "personal" calendar entries from Step Two. When this file is selected and "OPEN" chosen, the entries will be imported into the new calendar document. A verification dialog will show telling you how many entries were imported.

The "Import->Calendar Entries..." command
is available under the "File" menu.

That's it!
