Migrating from "_Deleted Items"

The advent of ChronoSync 3.1 brought about a significant change in how deleted files are handled. In pre-3.1 versions, deleted files were either deleted immediately, moved to Trash, or moved to a "_Deleted Items" folder. Now, instead of just deleting files, ChronoSync saves deleted and modified files by storing them in an archive folder. A new option, "Move to Archive", is available now.

When you open a pre-3.1 document, it will ask you to convert the document to the new version. It will then see if you had the '_Deleted Items' method enabled in the document, and if so, will suggest you change it and provide a simple one-button method of doing so. All this does is change your settings - it does not perform any magical conversion of the "_Deleted Items" folder.

Here's how you can manually migrate from the old "_Deleted Items" method of synchronizing deletions to the new Archiving method:

Step 1. In your target's folder, rename your "_Deleted Items" folder to anything but "_Deleted Items" or "_Archived Items". Note: These two folder names are names that ChronoSync uses. Using them would cause a conflict. A name like "Old Deleted Items" would be a good choice.
Step 2. Open your synchronizer document and switch to the Analyze panel. Depending on how the document is set up, "Old Deleted Items" will appear either marked for deletion or marked for copying. In this example you can see that it is marked for copying.

Step 3. Select "Old Deleted Items" and invoke the "Delete" command.
Step 4. A Single Item Deletion sheet appears. From your list of deletion method choices, choose the "Move to Archive" option.
Depending on how many items there are in the "Old Deleted Items" folder, this may or may not take a while. When finished, everything you previously had in "Old Deleted Items" will be in a subfolder in your archive. How this differs from simply manually moving "Old Deleted Items" in Finder is that ChronoSync will actually record information on each and every file, thus the "Date Archived" time-stamp will be set as well as the initial version number for each file.

That's it!
