Download Photos Using Image Capture
Image Capture is an application that is unique to Mac OS X which allows a variety of devices -- digital cameras, flash cards, photo CDs -- to easily download digital images onto your computer. Image Capture is designed to automatically launch whenever one of these devices is connected to your computer. You can even have all your images show up in Portraits & Prints. To find out how, just follow these six easy steps below:

Note: If you are using iPhoto you may want to download your images directly into iPhoto. Just Connect, launch iPhoto, click Import, and then click on the Import button in the lower right corner.

1. Connect
Plug your device into your computer.

2. Launch Image Capture
After a brief delay the following window should appear. If it doesn’t, manually launch the application Image Capture.

 

3. Choose your destination
In the “Download To” pop-up menu, specify where the digital images should be downloaded. By default, they will be placed in the “Pictures” folder in your “Home” folder. You can choose “Other...” from this pop-up menu to designate a different folder to download the images.

4. Add them to Portraits & Prints
Choose “Open in Portraits & Prints” in the “Automatic Task” pop-up menu. This will place the downloaded image files in a catalog, launching Portraits & Prints if necessary.

5. Select your images
If you only want to download a few of the images stored in your digital device, click “Download Some...”. You can then specify which ones to download and which ones to ignore. If you simply want to download all the images stored in your digital device, click “Download All”.

Note: After a download is performed you will see the “Open in Portraits & Prints” script execute. This will launch Portraits & Prints (if necessary), create a catalog, and add the download files to the catalog. That's it.
