Putting Text on Photos or Templates

With Portraits & Prints you can place text directly on a photo or on a template.

If you want to put text directly on a photo, you can put it directly on that photo within a Catalog document. Note that Portraits & Prints does not change the original photo, so any text you place on the photo will only appear on the photo when using Portraits & Prints.

If you want text to appear anywhere on a template, then you would place the text directly on the template while using a Template document.

Text on a Photo

There are a few reasons why you would want text on your photos: balloon captions, thought bubbles, or plain text boxes.

To do this, open a Catalog document, choose the "Photograph" panel and select the photo you want to add text to. You can add three kinds of text to the photo:

  1. Balloon Captions

  2. balloon iconTo make a balloon caption, click on the caption button and drag the ballon wherever you want. Once the balloon is place where you'd like it, double click on it to enter the text.

When you have the ballon selected a "Caption Properties" window will appear so you can edit the text in the balloon.balloon
  3. Thought Bubbles
  4. To make a thought bubble, start by making a balloon caption. Now from the "Caption Properties" window, change the tail style from "Spoken" to "Thought". You may also want to change the Basic Shape to a "Cloud".

Now from the "Caption Properties" window you can edit the text and make any changes you want.

Text on a Template

You can place text anywhere on a template. Using the "Inspector" window you can edit any text. Any fonts you install on your Mac will be available for use in the "Inspector" window.

  1. Regular Text
  2. Open a new Template document (or edit an existing one) and click on the "Text" toolbar button.

  3. Photo Property
  4. There is a lot of information stored within an image file. Portraits & Prints lets you automatically display any of the information directly on the template.
Follow the same steps above for regular text. From the "Inspector" window change the "Field Variant" to "Photo Property". Now you can extract any information from your photos and have it automatically display on the template. Use the Inspector and Object Geometry windows to edit the text.
To get more than one photo property displayed create additional text boxes.
