Setting the Correct Paper Size

Portraits & Prints prints to templates. Each template is designed for a specific size of paper. Most of the templates that come with Portraits & Prints are designed for standard 8.5X11 paper. If you want a template for a different size of paper you need to create it.

To start working with templates, you need to open a new template. From the File menu choose "New" and then "Template".

Whenever you create a new template the first thing you do is set the paper size. There are two ways to do this.

  1. The new template will probably be the default paper size of your Mac. To change the paper size, from the file menu choose "Page Setup". Now change the paper size to whatever size you want and click "OK". The template will adjust to the new size automatically.
  1. You can also change the paper size directly from the Inspector Panel. Under the "Page" tab, click on "Fixed Width", which is a subitem of "Size". Now you can type directly in the size of the paper you want.

It is recommended that you use the Page Setup method to set the size of the template. Most printers use Page Setup to determine the size of the paper, so this should result in the print driver sending the correct information to the printer.

If the size you want is not listed under "Page Setup" you can select "Manage Custom Sizes" at the bottom of the paper sizes listed to create any size paper you want. You can always specify custom sizes throught the Page Inspector panel. Creating your own custom sizes usually works with most printers.
