Locating Targets.

If you are going to backup or synchronize to another location, you need ChronoSync to be able to find the targets. Every so often ChronoSync is unable to locate one or both of your targets. There are various reasons as to why this may occur. When this does happen, ChronoSync warns you by displaying a "target not located" readiness warning, located at the bottom left of the Synchronizer document.

A synchronization (or backup) cannot be performed until both targets have been located. This tip will discuss a few common scenarios and their solutions.
The instructions below are common solutions to target location problems. These steps should fix your problem. If you've followed these steps and ChronoSync is still unable to locate the target, send us a support ticket detailing your situation.

Before reading the tip below, make sure the destination machine is ON and connected to the network and accessible via the machine that ChronoSync is running on. For a server, the easiest way to check if it's accessible is seeing if it is listed in a Finder window. For ChronoAgent, open the Connections preference pane in ChronoSync and see how the status of the connection profile is listed (available versus unavailable).

Connected to a Network Volume
If you have configured your Synchronizer document to mount a server, and the "Unable to locate target" message is displayed because the mount fails, the three steps below may be the steps that help with your problem. However, if the server is mounted but it still states "Unable to locate volume", then turning OFF "Strict volume identification", located in the Options window for that target, is likely the solution.

1. Clear the Keychain.

2. Remount using Finder.
Open a Finder window. On the left hand side of the window, you should have a "Shared" entry. Click on "All..." to get a list of all the shared volumes you are able to connect to.

3. Provide Username and Password.
The last step to get ChronoSync to locate a network volume target is to put your volume's username and password into the Options window for that target.

Connected to ChronoAgent

If you have ChronoAgent as one of your targets and ChronoSync is unable to locate it, try restarting ChronoAgent and connecting again. Also, try turning OFF "Strict volume identification", located in the Options window for that target.

Connected to a Local Volume

If you are trying to connect to a local volume, and ChronoSync doesn't seem to 'remember' the target, then try unchecking 'Strict Volume Identification' in the Options for that target.
