If you are going to backup or synchronize to another computer you need to connect to it. There are two basic ways to connect to another computer: Network or Direct.

All the information you need for connecting to other computers is available via Mac Help. To access Mac Help choose "Mac Help" from Finder's Help menu or hold down the COMMAND-? keys together, while in Finder. To make it simple, the topics you need to search for are listed below. Turn on File Sharing
Regardless if a network is wired or wireless you connect using the same procedure. The first thing you must do is turn on file sharing on the destination Mac.

To enable file sharing, launch "System Preferences" and choose the "Sharing" pane. If file sharing is off, turn it on by clicking the checkbox in the list. When file sharing is enabled, a descriptive message provides information on how you can connect to this computer - you may want to make a note of this. Once file sharing is turned on, it will remain on, even between restarts of the computer. The only way to turn it off is to revisit the Sharing preferences panel and turn it off.

Method 1. Connecting via Network

Method 2. Direct Connect

Note: It is important to know that the type of connection affects the speed in which files copy. Usually firewire is the fastest, followed by ethernet, followed by wireless.
