Firewall Configuration.

Configuring a firewall is only necessary if you are running a firewall. The firewall defaults to OFF, so it’s typical to not even use one.

Configuring a firewall in Snow Leopard
To open a firewall port on a Snow Leopard system, follow these steps to ensure it’s properly set up:

Step 1. Open System Preferences.
Open your System Preferences and click on the "Security" icon. Choose the “Firewall” tab.

Step 2. Choose allowed connections.
If you do nothing, by default, all incoming connections will be allowed since the Firewall is turned "Off". If you wish to have control over what programs are allowed incoming connections, you need to "Start" the Firewall by clicking on the "Start" button.

Step 3. Modify settings.
Once the Firewall is turned “On”, you’ll notice that the “Advanced...” button becomes enabled. Click on this to modify the settings.

Step 4. Options.
The advanced panel has 3 options: "Block all incoming connections", "Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections", and "Enable stealth mode". Explanations of each are documented on the Advanced panel and in the Help page associated with this panel.

Step 5. Add ChronoSync.
The "Block all incoming connections" must not be chosen. Choosing this will block ChronoSync. To allow ChronoSync to have an incoming connection, add it to the "Applications" list. This can be done by clicking on the '+" button which will then take you to a file browser window so that you can navigate to ChronoSync in the Finder and add it.

Configuring a firewall in Leopard

To open a firewall port on a Leopard system, very little needs to be done. It is important, though, to have the correct setting in place. Follow these steps to ensure it’s properly set up:

Step 1. Open System Preferences.
Open your System Preferences and click on the "Security" icon.

Step 2. Choose allowed connections.
Choose either "Allow all incoming connections" or "Set access for specific services and applications". The "allow only essential services" button must NOT be enabled since ChronoAgent is not considered an essential service by the OS.
